Principal/Owner – Debbie Leigh

I started Venus Realty in February 2009.  Having worked for ‘brand’ agencies I decided that it was time to branch out on my own, so with lots of enthusiasm, excitement and planning, Venus Realty made its debut.

I’m the first to admit that it’s been a bumpy ride. I’d never in my wildest dreams (or nightmares) imagined how tough it would be.  From its humble beginnings in the spare bedroom of my home to its current CBD location (next to Coles), Venus Realty has come a long way.

As many of you will recall we were experiencing a very buoyant property market in 2008, unfortunately 2009 saw a completely different property market.  Many agencies closed and up to 50% of agents left the industry and here I was about to embark on a new real estate business.  On reflection, it was a completely insane thing to do.

It was a stark reality check about how unforgiving the property market could be.  Not just for me but for sellers who were seeing their property prices fall through the floor.  However in my mind,  I also thought it presented an ideal opportunity.  Why wouldn’t sellers embrace my agency?  I was offering a fairer deal on commissions and advertising.  In fact I was saving them thousands of dollars.  So Venus Realty was the perfect solution in such a tough market.  Right?

In reality of course, it wasn’t that easy.  Home sellers were sceptical.  Years of conditioning on commission and advertising costs, well there had to be a catch.  How could what Venus Realty offered be the same?  Here I was trying to encourage people to embrace technology, to take a leap of faith.  No I wasn’t part of a large franchise and yes I worked from home, but not for one minute did I believe it was a barrier to achieving a great result.    Unfortunately, as much as people wanted to believe, this was their most significant asset and many elected to take the road most travelled, despite the cost.

Luckily for me, in the beginning there were those home sellers who took that leap of faith to test out a ‘challenger brand’ and from there Venus Realty has grown to the business that it is today.

Fast forward and much to the relief of property owners, the market has improved dramatically and days on market are greatly reduced.  People are also embracing today’s technology and understand that selling the family home is vastly different to how it was 10 years ago.  I am constantly talking to people and I find that many of you are starting to question real estate commissions and advertising packages.  More than ever we’re all becoming cost conscious and looking to find value everyday, whether that’s in the food that we buy or the home we’re about to sell.

At Venus Realty a large percentage of our clientele still comes from referrals and I know as a business owner that without you I would have no business.  Technology is on our side and my mantra has always been bigger is not always better.  And because of that we try harder.  So when the time comes for you to sell your family home or you need an agency to manage your investment, then give us a call.  I am confident that your experience with Venus Realty will be a memorable one for all the right reasons and especially for your hip pocket.
